This issue was photographed on a farm in Camden, Maine, on the traditional homelands of the people of the Penobscot Nation. Penobscot is the name Penawapskewi which means “the people of where the white rocks extend out”, referring to parts of the Penobscot River. The Penobscot Nation is part of the Wabanaki Confederacy, and have historically spoken the Algonquian language – Algonquian meaning “people from the east.” The Penobscot Indian Island Reservation is located along the Penobscot River, a place of fishing, hunting, farming, and gathering.
