Intro to Free Motion Quilting
September 14 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm MDT$60
Free motion quilting is an artistic way to use your home machine to quilt designs on and to embellish quilts. In this three hour workshop, we’ll begin by teaching students how to set up their machine for free-motion quilting. It’s useful to bring your machine to class along with an appropriate foot to use, called a darning foot, embroidery foot, or hopping foot. We’ll trace designs on paper to think through the design first. Then we’ll practice how to move the quilt sandwich to create designs like stippling and McTavishing. You’ll leave the class feeling comfortable starting to incorporate free motion into your quilting projects at home.
Fabricate will provide fabric to practice on during class, and material to create a quilted placemat to take home. You’ll leave with additional resources to reference after the class. Once we’ve gone over the common problems beginners face with FMQ, we’ll translate the new skills onto a designing and sewing a simple placemat.
Instructor: Anna Meiners
Materials: all materials are included in the price of the class. Ideally you will bring your own sewing machine with a darning or free motion foot but if not, Fabricate will provide those for you.
